Actor and lifelong photographer, Leonard Nimoy's The Full Body Project is an empowering, fun photography book. When I first heard this book was being published, I was very excited, as I rarely see artistic nudes of people my size. The photos are natural and organic, showing the body in an uncontrived way. A ground-breaking study in celebration of diversity, The Full Body Project encouraged me to appreciate my shape in a body-hating culture. Guerrilla Art Kit, by Keri Smith. I really loved this little book chock full of fun and informative ways to be creative in public spaces. Art is seriously underrated in the mainstream, and this collection of projects and ideas encourages everyday individuals to let their creative juices flow. One of my favorites involves mixing seeds and clay and launching this “seed bomb” into vacant lots, where pretty flowers will later grow. Guerrilla Art Kit motivated me to think creatively about new ways to build bridges between people and create community. Reviewed by Tish Hodge, Collection Management Assistant [8/25/08]

Japanese Goth: Art and Design, by Tiffany Godoy & Ivan Vartanian

I was drawn to this book by the title and cover, thinking it would be mainly focused on the Goth fashion scene in Japan. In fact, this book is a showcase of Goth culture from Japan, covering a wide variety of tastes. It show its influence on fashion, art, and music by organizing the 235 pages into themes with a quick description at the beginning of each section. Whether you are into the cutesy side of Goth or tend toward the more grotesque, this book has something to offer.
