The incident where the wealthy merchant was going to feed his slave to the eels for breaking the crystal did actually occur. It was featured in a program on the History Channel.Navigating the politics, ambitions, slave rebellions, and Roman idea of justice the siblings try and find a niche for themselves in a strange world far from their ancestral kingdom. Beautifully researched and written.
